Paper Mario Coming to Nintendo Switch Online Next Week
Nintendo has announced that Paper Mario will be joining the Nintendo Switch Online catalog next week.
The company, revealed on Twitter, has released a trailer for the Nintendo 64 game, saying it will join the Switch’s online gaming service next week on December 10th. However, since it’s an N64 game, not all online users have access to it like you. You must subscribe to the expansion pack version of the service to play.
Nintendo’s tweet read: “Rescue Princess Peach as a paper-thin version of Mario from the clutches of Bowser on an adventure through Mushroom Kingdom.” “Paper Mario opens on Nintendo Switch on 12/10 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.”
First released on the N64 in 2000, Paper Mario was a Mario-centric derivative experiment developed by the company. Abandoning the more classic platform elements of the standard Super Mario series, Paper Mario instead takes our favorite Plumber and his friends on an RPG-like adventure complete with turn-based combat. Its popularity grew rapidly there, and today the Paper Mario series has several entries.
In fact, a new entry, Paper Mario: Origami King, hit the Switch last year. You can read our thoughts on this in Game Informer’s Paper Mario: Origami King review.
Here is Nintendo’s official description of Paper Mario. You’ll need all the help Mario can get as he travels from the tropical jungles of Lavalava Island to the frosty highlands of Shiver Mountain. Help our hero on the battlefield by mastering the abilities of the Seven Star Spirits and the other allies on the adventure.”
As mentioned above, you will need to subscribe to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which was released in October. A new service tier that includes N64 and Sega Genesis games. Individual memberships at this new level are $49.99 and family memberships are $79.99. If you’re already a standard Nintendo Switch Online subscriber and want to upgrade to the expansion pack, Nintendo will offer a pro-rated fee, taking into account the months you’ve already paid.
