Lego postpones Overwatch 2 sets due to Activision Blizzard controversy

It’s important to keep in mind what’s going on within Activision Blizzard right now with regards to the ongoing assertion of workplace culture. The ongoing action against the company by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) is a reported harmful workplace culture action. Most of the lawsuits focus on “violations of national citizenship and equal pay laws,” especially regarding the treatment of women and other marginalized groups. If you would like to learn more about the proceeding so far, including the details listed in the lawsuit against Activision Blizzard, please see the previous scope here.

Lego has delayed the release of the Lego Overwatch 2 Titan set as a result of the ongoing Activision Blizzard controversy.

The news comes via TheBrickFan, reporting that Lego is pausing set releases to review its partnership with Activision Blizzard in light of allegations against the company and internal management. The most recent controversy came in December when a current Blizzard employee said he was demoted after filing an HR complaint about sexual harassment at a press conference. Here is Lego’s official statement on the indefinite delay:

“We are currently reviewing a partnership with Activision Blizzard in light of concerns about progress toward addressing ongoing claims about the current workplace culture, particularly the treatment of female colleagues and the creation of a diverse and inclusive environment. While we’re completing our review, we’re pausing the launch of the Lego Overwatch 2 product that was scheduled to go on sale on February 1, 2022.”

This decision from Lego would have come in the last hour, as the Overwatch 2 Titan set was due out soon. With less than three weeks to go, it wouldn’t be surprising if these boxes were already shipping to retailers before today.

There is no word on when this set will be released or when Lego’s review of its partnership with Activision Blizzard will be complete.
