Konami Celebrates Castlevania's 35th Anniversary with New 'Memorial NFT' Collection

Konami celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Castlevania series with a new “memorial NFT” collection.

More specifically, the company is auctioning 14 NFTs, some of which appear as still images and others as videos. Of course, you can view it right now on our website (no purchase required). However, we don’t know how much each will cost as the auction doesn’t start until January 12th.

The press release states, “Konami Memorial NFT is a new initiative to share content loved by players around the world over the years.” “As the company’s first project in this field and with early stage NFT and blockchain technology, Konami will continue to explore new developments and hear feedback from players following this initial collection.”

Konami says the piece is made up of game scenes, background music, and “a freshly drawn picture in the history of the series.” The company also heralded the future of the Castlevania series, stating that “we will continue to support currently available titles, while evaluating new opportunities for titles that will meet and exceed player expectations.”

Here are some of the NFTs that Konami will auction on January 12th. It’s up to you to make this NFT special compared to other art and other videos.

Caslevania – Dracula’s Castle Pixel Art

“New original pixel art for this collection. This art is based on the map of Dracula’s castle from the original Castlevania game, with corresponding steps and creatures added to recreate the action.”

Castlevania - Vampire Killer

“The iconic music track from the original Castlevania’s opening level (Block 1) is available on video along with numerous in-game scenes.”

CASTLEVANIA – HIGHLIGHTS

“This is a highlight film edited with various gameplay footage, focusing on the most memorable scenes for Castlevania fans. The film condensed the record of the legendary vampire hunter Simon Belmont and his attack on Dracula’s Castle into 3:34.”

Blockchain games and NFTs have been heavily criticized in the industry for some of the ongoing environmental damage to date. Using cryptocurrencies frequently used to buy NFTs and mining those currencies will release millions of carbon dioxide, damaging the Earth’s atmosphere as reported by The Verge.

Currently, the use of cryptocurrencies is considered harmful to the planet. However, one of the most used cryptocurrencies, Ethereum, is working on something called “The Merge” that will “start the era of a more sustainable and greener Ethereum”. Only time will tell how green Ethereum is. Nonetheless, it looks like Konami will embrace NFTs and blockchains in the near future.
