Behavior Interactive Reveals First LGBTQIA2+ Characters in Dead By Daylight

Dead By Daylight’s 11th Tome in its Archives: Devotion series includes more stories about David King. Behavior Interactive said the story will be revealed as the first LGBTQIA2+ character in an asymmetric multiplayer title.

This survivor by the name of David King is already playable in the game and the studio says King is a fan favorite character. But tomorrow’s new Tome will allow fans to reveal their memories of David King, which will reveal their identity and reveal that he is the game’s first LGBTQIA2+ character.

Behavior Interactive writes in a press release that “The undeniable success of Dead by Daylight, which currently boasts over 50 million players worldwide, is thanks to its active and dedicated community, including an active LGBTQIA2+ player.” “Many fans have longed for more expression in the game, have expressed a need to identify with their favorite characters, and will be excited to dig into the 11th book of Game Archives: Devotion. A new book, available on Arpil 28, will uncover memories of the twins and survivor David King, as well as his struggle to embrace homosexuality.”

Behavior Interactive says David King is a hot-tempered thug who likes good things. Time spent as a debt collector has been painful for both inside and outside.

“Some of our pre-fog life has been revealed before, but there is still a lot left to be revealed,” the press release reads. “With Devotion, fans will find that part of his personal struggle has to do with accepting his identity and sexuality. David’s memories will take players to the bar. Conversations about romantic relationships at the bar will lead you to talk more about this personal life, including your ex-boyfriend.

“Achieving inclusiveness and expression in meaningful ways within the storytelling of Dead by Daylights has been a focus of the development team over the past few years. Creating content that is free of negative metaphors rather than simply checking the box has been a priority for the creators. To achieve this, the team worked with GaymerX, a consulting organization dedicated to providing best practices for integrating LGBTQIA2+ themes into existing games. The non-profit provided precise support on how to approach different stories without falling into in-game content and harmful language.”

In addition to David King, the new Tome brings additional narrative content to Dead by Daylight and new costumes and collections.

The press release states, “One of the fan favorite features that comes with each archive’s book is the new outfits you can use inside the lift.” “In Devotion, players can unlock a New World Stowaway outfit for the twins and a Night on the Town outfit for David King. Tome also comes with a new and returned collection. Among other inclusions, The Spring Ensembles Collection includes Blooming Delusion Very Rare mix and match outfits for the artist, Baseball Series Very Rare mix and match outfits for Jonah Vasquez, and Organic Monstrosity Very Rare mix and match. Blight’s game outfit. The Urban Art Collection will present players with a new Very Rare outfit for Nea: Stockholm Art Fest.”

Tome 11: Devotion launches for Dead by Daylight tomorrow, April 28th, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, Stadia, and PC.
