Assassin's Creed Valhalla Cross Over with Odyssey, Year 2 Roadmap Revealed

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Cross Over with Odyssey, Year 2 Roadmap Revealed

In the year following its release, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has proven to be one of the strongest and most popular of its long-running franchises. Recent items like Odyssey received a huge amount of post-launch content in their first year of release. But even after releasing a few successful large expansions in 2021, Valhalla is still going strong and it looks like it’s ready to outperform its predecessor by continuing its Viking voyage into its sophomore year.

Dawn of Ragnarök is at the heart of our ongoing rollout, a major new expansion coming out late winter, aiming to add a sizable amount of new missions, environments to explore, and new character abilities that change gameplay. Its major expansion is set for release in March, but you don’t have to wait that long to get some new fun in Assassin’s Creed. Launching tomorrow, December 14, the brand is exploring fascinating new initiatives with dedicated story content spanning Valhalla and Odyssey.

The new Crossover Stories include unique content drops from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The free content release helps reveal new connected aspects of the broader Assassin’s Creed novel, covering elements of Isu culture that Odyssey’s novels explored in their late-game and post-release storytelling. In the Valhalla sequence we also see Eivor meeting Kassandra in person. Thanks to a spoiler-free event in the second half of Odyssey. In both the new Odyssey and Valhalla content, expect to discover all-new missions featuring new locations not yet seen.

Players can expect even bigger adventures, especially when it comes to the bigger expansion pack coming out in March. Origins and Odyssey previously set a precedent for expansion content heading into the realm of mythology. These concepts were so successful that the core game of Valhalla embodies several important relationships with Norse mythology, including extensive explorations of the realms of Asgard and Jotunheim, where important revelations established the link between Eivor and Odin. Dawn of Ragnarök continues the story as Odin travels to a dwarven realm called Svartalfheim. What is his mission? Rescue his son Baldr from the clutches of Surt, the fire giant.

Svartalfheim is a vast new gameplay space that is described as roughly 1/3 the size of the entire England area in the base game. Early glimpses of gameplay reveal appropriately rigged dwarf statues and monuments scattered throughout the landscape, along with lavish fantasy play spaces, from massive underground dwarf forges to towering snow-capped peaks.

Fighting as Odin, players must face a variety of enemies, including the frosted Jotnar previously seen in Jotunheim. The new arrivals are the burning forces of the Muspels. These fire giants possess dangerous fighting abilities and have driven dwarves out of their homes and into hiding places.

Part of that help comes in the form of the Hugr-Rip, a magical bracer gift from the dwarves. A new artifact allows Odin to assume the powers of enemies he has defeated. A few new abilities sound particularly powerful. Odin transforms into a raven, capable of descending upon his enemies from high and far, making deadly assassinations. He can infuse his weapons with ice. The power of the bow allows the player to teleport to where they shoot. And it can even raise fallen enemies and fight for you.

Dawn of Ragnarök boasts 35 hours of new content. If true, this is more than all of the many early Assassin’s Creed games combined. And in addition to a new big storyline focused on mythology, Ubisoft promises a new arena where players can hone their fighting skills against an ever-growing set of challenges.

New expansion details follow along with amazing new content available to play right now. The new Crossover Stories is a fascinating experiment with new missions in both Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Linked stories, when played together, provide a fresh revelation of the broader Assassin’s Creed novel. We see Eivor and former hero Kassandra meet in person. Thanks to an event we won’t spoil at the end of Odyssey.

Based on the release cadences of previous games, it would have been easy to guess that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was starting to finish. However, this announcement proves that Ubisoft is still investing heavily in the game, with an upcoming crossover story and an upcoming March expansion. It remains to be seen if we’ll get more information from the game after that, but Viking warriors should rejoice that Eivor’s adventures aren’t over yet.
